Costa Rica airport is selling $4,95 rice cakers for $3.95 per pound.
They’re made of “freshly cut, flavorful rice,” according to the website.
The site lists three types of rice caker: one with a sweet potato center and a vegetable center, one with rice with a vegetable and rice, and the other with rice and carrots.
The prices range from $3 per pound for the vegetable center to $3 a pound for a sweet corn center.
“I’m not sure why this is even on the list,” Costa Rico airport food and beverage director, Alejandro Rangel, told Reuters.
“If you want to buy a whole rice, it’s only about $4 to $5 per pound,” he said.
Costa Rica’s economy relies on rice imports, but it’s also an expensive way to feed the hungry.
Last year, the World Bank estimated that Costa Rica lost $3 billion in gross domestic product due to food and other imports.
